Cyncoed homes and their wiring
Cyncoed is mostly larger detached and semi-detached houses on generous plots, built from the interwar years onwards, with Lakeside and Penylan either side of Roath Park. Many of these houses have been extended upwards and outwards more than once, and their electrics have grown with them.
That growth is what the work tends to be about. A house with a loft conversion, a rear extension, a garage turned into a room and a garden office will often have circuits added from three or four different eras, sometimes from more than one board. Tidying that into one clear, properly protected installation is a common job here.
Bigger houses with driveways also mean bigger demands on the supply: an EV charger, an induction hob, an electric shower and perhaps solar and a battery. Checking the supply and the main fuse before adding the next big load is part of every survey we do in houses like these.
What we are asked to do in Cyncoed
- Consumer unit upgrades and partial rewires that bring extensions and loft rooms into one tidy installation.
- EV chargers, solar panels and batteries, with the supply checked first.
- Lighting design for open-plan kitchens and living spaces, and power to garden rooms.
Every job is certified, and anything notifiable is notified through our scheme so you get the building regulations compliance certificate. The Welsh rules on that are not the same as England's — see what electrical work needs signing off in Wales.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Can my house supply cope with an EV charger and solar?
Usually, with the right equipment. We check the supply, the main fuse and the consumer unit at survey, and where needed a charger can be set to reduce its draw automatically when the house is busy.
My house has two consumer units from different extensions. Is that a problem?
Not by itself, but it is worth knowing exactly what each one feeds and that both are properly protected. An EICR will set that out, and we can then decide with you whether to combine them.
Do you cover Lakeside and Penylan?
Yes, both, along with Pentwyn and across to Roath and Llanishen, where we have dedicated pages.
