Does your Caerphilly house actually need rewiring?
Age on its own is not the answer, and neither is the look of the fuse board. What decides it is the condition of the wiring itself: the state of the insulation, whether the circuits have a protective conductor throughout, whether anything has been extended badly over the years, and what an inspection finds when the circuits are actually tested.
That inspection is an EICR, and its codes are worth understanding before anyone quotes you. C1 means danger present and C2 means potentially dangerous — either makes the report unsatisfactory, and so does FI, which means further investigation is needed. C3 is a recommendation and the report is still satisfactory. "It came back with C3s so it needs rewiring" is a sales line, not a finding.
Plenty of houses that get quoted for a full rewire need something much smaller: a consumer unit change, one circuit replaced, or a fault traced and corrected. A rewire is disruptive and expensive enough that it is worth knowing which of those you are actually looking at first.
